This marks a significant milestone in the journey towards improving access to and experiences of services and support for people with Down syndrome. The draft guidance brings important information together in one place to support services to improve life outcomes for people with Down syndrome, as well as people with other conditions and/or a learning disability who have similar needs.
The consultation seeks to understand if the guidance is clear, informative and useful to relevant authorities in carrying out their relevant functions. The consultation will close at 11:59pm on 30 March 2026. DHSC encourage anyone with an interest to take the time to please share their views on the draft guidance. Furthermore, please note that the DHSC have recently published an Easy Read version around the Mental Health Act 2025: the changes to the law that tells people what to do if they need to stay in hospital after a mental health crisis.
